And you shall remember the Lord your God for it is He who gives you the power to get wealth” – Deuteronomy 8:18
I hear a lot of people flatter themselves with the phrase “I am a hustler” like it’s a belt to wear around the waist declaring some sort of victory but I am of the opinion that this phrase has kept a lot in bondage for so long and I think it’s time you set yourself free from the bounds.
Let’s consider some of the dictionary meaning of the term and you will see it’s easy to see that it’s a very wrong confession.
Urban Dictionary: someone who knows how to get money from others. selling drugs, rolling dice, pimping etc.
Dictionary.com: an enterprising person determined to succeed; go-getter. 2. Slang. a person who employs fraudulent or unscrupulous ways to get money
Free Dictionary.com: To move or act energetically and rapidly. 2. To push or force one’s way.
Merriam Webster’s dictionary: jostle, shove; to convey forcibly or hurriedly; to urge forward precipitately
Something common with these definitions is willpower. While this is good, we must remember that it is God who gives power to get wealth, not your willpower. God’s plan for you is to have ease, work with grace while He blesses and multiply your productivity (Ezekiel 36:30). If this is God’s plan for you then you are not fulfilling the scripture if you are not leveraging on that grace, most times, people who call themselves hustlers are not even making legitimate money and thereby put those who are, and are confessing the same thing in jeopardy.
It is good to work hard, even the bible says the person who does not work should not eat (2Thes 2:3) but the “power” is not in the hustle, it is God who gives the power to get wealth and since “hustler” means a person who gets money through force, push, energy, it exempt the place of that grace God gives to get wealth and the burden to get (wealth) is restricted to your (limited) knowledge and know-how. It will be a sorry case if that knowledge and know-how is insufficient for the goal, one will just continue to struggle.
Jesus said, He will give us the Holy Spirit who will teach us ALL things. ALL THINGS include how to get wealth, therefore brethren, don’t be a hustler, leverage on the grace to get (wealth) instead.
Now that we know the meaning of hustler, won’t use it again! God bless selahafrica!
