DAILY BREAD: YOU WILL LAY UP GOLD LIKE IT'S WORTHLESS

shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the [gold] of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.” – Job 22:24

It’s not today that men began to idolize money and place it above God in their lives. What’s more pathetic is the attitude of some wealthy celebrities who think themselves equal to God just because of money and influence. That’s just foolish, if you ask me.

God wants you to have money and not the other way round – He does not want money to have you. Men covet, lust after money and when they get it, they think that’s where it ends but that’s not what the bible teaches. Money is good but wisdom is as good as having money because it saves lives. [Eccle 7:12].

God’s plan for us is to have enough of it but also to acknowledge He is the source; and honour Him with our finances. One dimension to Job 22:24 is that once you clean off dust from a place, it does not take too long before it resurfaces. Another dimension is that you don’t need dust for anything. In most cases, it’s worthless. The bible says, you will lay up gold like it’s worthless. That means you will have it in abundance yet, you will esteem God higher than it. This is the attitude of a rich man even if you are still in your low estate right now, it’s only a matter of time.
