“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10
I recently took some time after last year’s work to pamper myself a little for a week. When I got back, I met so much challenges I started to think if I had stayed around for that week, I may not have dealt with the challenges.
The more I tried to resolve the issues, the more they pend. At this point, I had exhausted all creative reasoning. I had prayed and I trust God was going to take care of the issue but it kept extending then the Lord hit me twice with the above scripture! The 3rd time, it was the realization that made me go in search of the scripture.
Jesus was led up to be tempted by the devil at a period when he fasted and prayed. Could it be that the devil seizes the opportunity when we express our spiritual confidence to make us sorry for the confidence and joy that we feel? And when the challenges roar, do we suddenly sober up and mince the confidence that we have expressed?
I began to think maybe I shouldn’t have taken the break, pampered myself too much instead of doing what Jesus did. Jesus rose to the occasion and used the word as his defense against the devil. 3 times he referred to the scripture saying “It is written…”
Do you know what happened next? The bible recorded that the devil left Him alone and angels came to minister to Him. I took the word in Nehemiah 8:10 literally and I confessed it over the situation, told the devil I am not sorry for the confidence and joy that I feel, and that he should be gone!
God began to work out the challenges one after the other till I came back to my place of rest. I had given Him a place to work when I sowed the word and stayed in the place of confidence and joy.
