– Deeper Life Successor -William Kumuyi Says Sons Won’t Lead
Founder and General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has explained why none of his biological children will automatically succeed him as leader of the church.
Speaking on the issue of succession, the respected cleric dismissed suggestions that leadership of the ministry can’t be handed over to a family member, insisting that the church belongs to Jesus Christ and not to any individual.
According to Kumuyi, church leadership should never be treated as a family inheritance, stressing that no pastor has the authority to transfer ownership of God’s church to a son or relative simply because of blood ties.

“The church doesn’t belong to me. It’s Jesus’ church,” he said while addressing concerns about succession within the ministry.
The veteran preacher noted that biblical leaders did not pass spiritual leadership to their children as though the church were a personal possession.
He cited examples from the early Christian church, emphasizing that leadership is determined by God’s will rather than family connections.

Kumuyi further stated that God would choose the appropriate person to lead the ministry when the time comes, adding that succession should be guided by divine direction and not human preference or pressure.
His remarks come amid growing public discussions about leadership transitions in some of Nigeria’s largest churches, where succession plans have often generated debate among members and observers.
