– AY Stopped Attending Church – Shares Reasons Why

Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, Ayodeji Richard Makun, popularly known as AY, has opened up on why he stopped attending church, saying his decision was not a reflection of a loss of faith in God.

Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, the comedian explained that he withdrew from church activities after a painful experience involving his former place of worship.

According to AY, he had initially found a church where he felt accepted and welcomed. However, following the circulation of a negative narrative about him on blogs, he said he was informed that he would no longer participate in a scheduled church programme because of concerns over public perception.

The entertainer said the incident left him disappointed, prompting him to stay away from church for a long period. He stressed that his absence from church did not mean he had stopped believing in God or abandoned his Christian faith.

AY questioned whether the church should only be open to people with spotless public images, arguing that places of worship are meant to receive people regardless of their imperfections. He maintained that the experience reshaped his perspective on organized religion while strengthening his personal relationship with God.
