Pastor William F. Kumuyi, General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has warned Christians against using artificial intelligence (AI) to create fake images and imitate people’s voices for the purpose of deceiving others.

The warning highlights growing concerns over the misuse of AI technology to produce misleading digital content capable of making people appear to say or do things they never did.

AI tools can now generate realistic images, videos and voice recordings that closely resemble real people. When deliberately manipulated and presented as genuine, such content can mislead audiences, damage reputations and undermine public trust.

Kumuyi’s reported warning comes amid increasing concerns about the spread of fabricated content on social media, where manipulated videos and cloned voices can circulate widely before their authenticity is established.

The technology also raises concerns within religious communities, where fake recordings attributed to pastors and other Christian leaders could be used to spread false teachings, misrepresent their beliefs or deceive unsuspecting followers.

The development also highlights the distinction between using AI as a tool for communication and using it to mislead people.

As AI-generated content becomes increasingly realistic, social media users are being encouraged to verify the source of videos, photographs and audio recordings before accepting or sharing them as authentic.

The development underscores the importance of responsible technology use, honesty and digital awareness, particularly as fabricated content becomes more difficult to distinguish from genuine recordings.
