psalmosPsalmos is one of the most dynamic vocalist in the Gospel music industry. Her voice has been compared with Dolly Parton’s and if you’ve been listening you can identify the similarities. She is a mother, a wife and most definitely, an anointed music minister. Psalmos has got the best of both world as her husband Dekunle Oniyo also doubles as her producer… Guess the understanding by which they have been able to cohabit also extends into her music.

Psalmos is on the verge of releasing the video for one of her singles which was released with her last album titled “Ku’se” which features Kenny Ko’re. While we anticipate the release of this video, the delectable songstress took out some time to chat with SelahAfrik’s Alex Amos about her music, life and family.

Background.

I grew up with my mother, I’m the last born of six children, I’m from Ekiti state. I attended Community primary and secondary school, then proceeded to University of Ado Ekiti for a diploma in Banking and Finance. I later had my degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management (IRPM) at the Lagos State University (LASU). I have a Christian background, my mum is a christian so we did a lot of going to church, choir practice and so on. She specifically thought me the ways of the Lord. She’s late now though, but her legacy lives on.

Becoming an artist.

Apart from the fact that I used to stand in front of the mirror and sing for my mum as a child, I’d always wanted to be a career woman, which I did anyways. I worked in a bank and other companies for few years but music never left me and I can recall pastors and ministers telling me even while working that God told them that I’m his vessel, my mum also told me that no matter the career I chose for myself, she was certain that I’ll be used of God so becoming an artist was not apparent to me until it happened. I didn’t know I was going to become an artist and I was busy pursuing other dreams. God made it all happened and I embraced it.

Hubby.

I met my husband in the church (CLAM) where I was in the choir and he was the church’s keyboardist. He was already a producer then. I used to go to him to rehearse my written songs, he liked them and we became friends, somewhere along the line the friendship grew.

Experience as a Gospel music minister.

My experience as a Gospel music minister is similar to the experience you get as a human being, in the sense that you meet the good, the bad and the ugly. All of it is to make you stronger, wiser, matured and above all get, closer to God.

psalmos 2Joggling Family and carrier.

God is helping me and he has made it easier for me because my husband and I are both into music so he understands and helps out a lot

New Video – “Ku’se.”

Actually, that song is about 5 years old and it’s in my previous album. I shot the video because my fans really wanted it and for the fact that several choirs have rendered the song. I owe them. The video will be out before you can blink.

New Album.

My new album will be out before the end of the year by Gods grace.

Beauty tip – keeping the youthful radiance.

I don’t use any harsh cream or soap on my skin, I like to go natural. exercising and having lots of rest also helps.

Dreadlocks

It is a trademark for me. I love it!

Fashion style.

I love being stylish in a way that best suits me, sometimes the occasion or my mood  determines my mode of dressing, the dress I choose determines my choice of accessories. When I want to buy my fashion items, I look at the designs, styles, colours and fittings.

Matrimonial journey.

My husband is a simply a blessing and the journey has been great… all glory to God.

Expectation.

Expect the new album, lots of new videos, more songs as the spirit leads and off course concerts by his grace.

If you were not a Gospel artiste…

(Laughs) If I wasn’t  a gospel minister, I would be a carrier woman still reaching out to the the few people in my world

Latest bible discovery.

Hebrew 4:12. Gods word is quicker than any other weapon, more powerful than u can imagine.

  5. Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of any widgets I could
add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.
I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for
quite some time and was hoping maybe you would have some
experience with something like this. Please let me know if
you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to

  7. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it
or something. I think that you can do with a few pics to drive the message
home a little bit, but instead of that, this is
magnificent blog. An excellent read. I’ll definitely be back.
