The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.” – Act 28:6
People will call you by whatever names they think you are. Poor, broke, lazy, sluggish, loser etc, it is human nature, but you do not bear that name until you answer to it.
How do you answer to such names? By your reaction. Someone once said; “the most tested truth is not true until it becomes your truth.” It is the same with the effectiveness of God’s word in your life, until you accept it, believe it and confess it, it may as well be another big history book to you.
Paul said ” by the grace of God, I am what I am” (1 Corinthians 15:10). Little wonder when he was bitten by a snake in Malta, everyone called him different names, a murderer, convict and the likes but you will notice that Paul did not respond to them (the people nor the names), instead he carried on with what he was doing. I’m assuming that the word of Jesus must be ringing in his mind that says “they will take up serpents… It will by no means hurt them” (Mark 16:18).
The bible recorded that after a while, when they saw that no harm came to Paul, they changed their mind and said that “he was a god.” (Act 28:6).
If you stay on your believe in what the word of God has said concerning you, it really doesn’t matter what people are calling you today due to the situation and circumstances that surrounds you. The word of God has the power to change that but just like Paul, the people had to look a long time. That time is your own time of waiting in prayer and meditation. Let them keep saying what they feel is true concerning you but do not stop confessing the real truth about yourself which is in God’s word. At the end, they will change their mind and testify of the power of God in your life.
