The Truth With Wilson Joel: Why The Instruments Get More Pay Than The Instrumentalists

Wilson Joel 1Why do we have music equipments worth millions and those who play them look like beggars!? Is someone not thinking what “JESUS” would do? That keyboard player, guitarist, bassist, drummer or whatever might not be able to afford that instrument even after working for years!

WHY IS IT LIKE THIS!? WHAT LOGIC?

A little kindness can go a long way in keeping people loyal to you! I do not subscribe to punishing people all in the name of making them value whatever! Abeg!!! That is old school! At least, pay them well enough for whatever part they play! Here is partly one of the reasons folks who can’t hold it together go secular! Some even quit music forever and these are super talented folks! At least I know a few! Not like I subscribe to their resolve but hey, our faith levels differ and we must not blame anyone for their actions! Only them know their own daily commitments!

Same goes for other organisations that require the service of instrumentalists, be it a band, group or what have you but this is common and not only in most churches! Some bands are just messed up for real! The leader takes 70% of the pay and shares 30% among the members of like 8 people! He or She is driving to the Venue of engagement and the band guys are coming via Okada! It’s über Wrong! Perhaps if you pay them good , they might be able to afford a car after 15 to 40 shows or so!

Little mathematics: A gig pays a drummer N50,000 x 20 GIGS = 1 Million Naira, he should be able to afford a car after playing 50 gigs! Sadly, he would play 200 GIGS and not be able to buy the spoke of a bicycle!

Whilst I was living in South Africa, I had friends who had better music gears than whatever organisations they played for. reason is simple, they are paid well for their service or rather appropriately!

I was once an instrumentalist for various set ups and I have a firsthand knowledge of this! Even when you are so foolishly stupidly loyal, all you get is abuse upon abuse! This can and should change! The mind of GOD isn’t like this, we ought to be fair. Pay people what is reasonable for their service not peanuts! Especially when you are able to afford it!

MORAL : IF you want people to stay loyal and passionate to you, be same to them! Do not behave like lion to them asking them to stay calm like the sheep!

Mike Aremu (Nigerian Jazz Artiste): Okay. This is so true

Kylie Gbokolo (UK Based Gospel Artiste): This applies in other areas of life o,in our dealings every day we take advantage of people’s talent without respect and then expect ours to flourish… The principle is set already what you sow , you shall reap… Truth is people who misuse or mistreat his workers , he falls so flat and ends up living in past glory whilst he still thinks he’s relevant. Hmmm and he sits in his past glory whilst the ones he’s used are rising up .
