– Pastors In EFCC Detention – Ola Olukoyede Reveals
The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has revealed that several religious leaders, including pastors and imams, are currently in detention over alleged fraudulent activities.
Olukoyede made this disclosure on Wednesday while speaking at the Jerry Eze Foundation Business Grant Award Ceremony in Abuja, where he addressed issues of corruption within religious institutions.
According to him, both Christian and Islamic religious organisations are not exempt from financial crimes, stressing that some clerics have not only been investigated but also convicted.
“I have a lot of them in my holding facility as I’m talking to you. I have a lot of them that are convicted for fraudulent practices,” he said.

The EFCC boss noted that wrongdoing should not be attributed to any particular religion but rather to individuals who abuse positions of trust for personal gain.
He emphasised that integrity remains a personal responsibility, regardless of religious affiliation.
Olukoyede also used the occasion to caution religious leaders against turning places of worship into avenues for illicit financial activities.
He urged faith-based organisations to uphold transparency and accountability, describing them as moral institutions that should set examples for society.
The EFCC chairman reiterated the commission’s commitment to tackling corruption across all sectors, including religious bodies, adding that no individual or group is above the law.
