– Colonization Indoctrinated Africans To Seek God – Rantiade Idahosa

Rantiade Idahosa, the first daughter of the late renowned Archbishop Benson Idahosa and Archbishop Margaret has sparked conversations on faith, culture, and identity after arguing that colonialism influenced Africans to seek God outside their own cultural heritage.

Speaking during a recent discussion on religion and African identity, Idahosa contended that many Africans have been conditioned to associate spirituality with foreign cultural expressions while often rejecting indigenous cultural elements.

She suggested that this mindset emerged from colonial-era narratives that portrayed African traditions as incompatible with authentic religious practice.

According to her, religion should not be detached from culture, noting that every society expresses its understanding of the divine through its unique cultural experiences.

She argued that Africa remains one of the few regions where many believers continue to view foreign cultural practices as inherently more acceptable for worship than their own.

The comments have generated debate across social media, with supporters describing the remarks as a call for Africans to reconnect with their cultural identity. Others, however, argue that religious beliefs transcend cultural boundaries and should not be defined primarily by ethnicity or tradition.

The discussion adds to ongoing conversations about the long-term impact of colonialism on African religion, language, education, and cultural expression.
