– VDM & Arome Osayi Debate – Eric Gugua Weighs In On Christians

Christian commentator and social media personality Eric Gugua has urged Christians to refrain from getting involved in the ongoing controversy between social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) and Apostle Arome Osayi.

Gugua, in a recent video circulating online, called on Christians to exercise restraint and avoid turning the disagreement into a broader conflict within the Christian community.

His comments come amid growing reactions to the ongoing back-and-forth between VDM and Apostle Arome, which has generated significant debate on social media in recent days.

The controversy began after VDM criticised a sermon by Apostle Arome in which the cleric spoke about Nigeria’s national calling, describing the country as having a role in the propagation of Christian revival.

VDM subsequently challenged aspects of the message, particularly its emphasis on prayer and revival in relation to Nigeria’s technological and economic development.

VDM later faced criticism over his manner of addressing the cleric, including his mockery of Arome’s facial palsy. A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Chinenye John Oluoma, subsequently called on VDM to apologise to Arome, arguing that disagreement with a person’s views should not result in insults or ridicule.

The dispute has since attracted responses from several Christian voices, with some defending Arome while others have focused on the substance of the preacher’s message and the broader questions raised by VDM.

Against this backdrop, Gugua’s latest intervention appears to focus on preventing Christians from becoming unnecessarily involved in the online confrontation.

He urged believers to be discerning about the conversations they participate in, stressing the importance of avoiding unnecessary arguments and division.

As reactions continue, the controversy remains a subject of discussion across Nigerian social media, with Christian commentators offering differing views on criticism, accountability, respect for ministers and the appropriate way to address disagreements within the faith community.
