– FG Hails RCCG Help In Evacuating Nigerians From South Africa
The Federal Government has commended the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) for its financial support towards the evacuation of distressed Nigerians from South Africa following renewed xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks.
The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed that the RCCG donated $265,854 to support the evacuation exercise, with the funds expected to cover 500 one-way air tickets for Nigerians seeking to return home.
In a statement issued by the ministry, the government described the intervention as a demonstration of compassion, solidarity and commitment to the welfare of Nigerians facing difficult circumstances abroad.

The donation was made under the leadership of RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
The Federal Government said the gesture also highlighted the importance of collaboration between government institutions and faith-based organisations in responding to humanitarian challenges affecting Nigerians in the diaspora.
The evacuation exercise began on June 10, 2026, following renewed reports of xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks in South Africa. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 1,640 Nigerians have so far been brought back to the country, comprising 1,385 whose evacuation was funded by the Federal Government and 255 whose return was supported through philanthropic contributions.

The ministry added that 202 Nigerians are currently awaiting final screening by South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs before their evacuation can be completed.
